The Allspan wood shavings are dried, sieved and dusted. In a special manufacturing process, they are also enriched with natural microorganisms. These become active as soon as they come into contact with moisture. Because they feed on the nitrogenous compounds in the feces and urine, ammonia gases can no longer be formed and the nitrogen is converted into harmless organic forms. Potential pathogens can also be suppressed. The newly formed nitrogen compounds serve as a food source for wood-replacing organisms. This creates the desired bioactive substrate. The wood is broken down gently and hygiene is maintained.

Initial situation:

Basic litter of approx. 4 bales of ALLSPAN bioactive

The bed of chips is initially very loose and quickly becomes a firm, dry layer due to the horse's own weight. The "horse droppings" are mucked up from the first day. From the third day, the wet chips are mixed with the dry ones, and the litter is then returned to a flat surface. This is necessary so that the box is "active" evenly. 3 - 4 times a month the very wet areas should be lifted out of the "bed of chips" with the pitchfork, whereby the firm mattress should not be completely "churned up"! Then, after approx. 10 days, sprinkle half a bale to a bale of ALLSPAN bioactive on the bioactive mattress, as required, so the horse can feel comfortable in a fresh, soft and dry bed of chips. If there is no horse in the box for a long period of time, feed the microorganisms by lightly spraying the chips with water (e.g. with a watering can). So the "little helpers" stay active. The bioactive mattress can stay in the box for up to a year before it is completely mucked out and then started again with a new litter. This nutrient-rich, and odourless compost can be used immediately as a natural fertiliser.
